The Vacationland Swim Club, Sandusky, Ohio

The Mission of the Vacationland Swim Club is to embrace all levels of swimmers, providing each and every athlete with the best possible environment and resources that will allow each athlete to progress from novice to the highest levels of competition.

The Vactionland Swim Club was started in 1970 at Perkins High School by legendary coach Joe Groscost. The club flourished during this period with an emphasis on helping swimmers outside their high school seasons. In 1988, VSC Switched gears and went to year-around swimming. At the time VSC competed successfully in the Ohio Swimming League (OH). VSC moved to our present swimming district, Lake Erie Swimming (LSC) in 1996.

Vacationland has competed very well in Lake Erie Swimming and recently finished 3rd in both the Short Course and Long Course Championships. Vacationland has a history of excellence, routinely having high-point winners at the Lake Erie Championship meets and recording district records.

Our Age Group program has had many Top 16 nationally ranked swimmers. VSC has had recent participants at USA Swimming Summer Nationals as well as a past swimmer at the 2004 Olympic Trials. Many past swimmers have matriculated to the college ranks. Two recent VSC alumni are NCAA Division 1 individual qualifiers Dan Wohl and Kim Routh. Kim Routh was a 2006 All-American at Clemson University in the 1650 freestyle, finishing 5th at the NCAA Championships.

VSC hosts the annual Candy Cane Classic in late December, as well as the popular Lake Erie Open Water Swim at Cedar Point in early July. VSC membership comes from north-central Ohio and has an annual membership of well over 100 swimmers.
